18 and Legal: A Night In Japan

18 is kind of a big deal - so I had about four different celebrations.
These two were my favorite (or simply had the best pictures).
My parents and some friends went out to Japanese food after an evening church meeting the day after I turned 18.
When we told the waiter it was my birthday, they said they'd come up with a special sushi roll, just for me.

The result:
The Liz Roll"

raw spicy tuna
raw tuna
raw yellowtail
raw salmon
4 different types of caviar
5 sauces

A week later we had the real party.
My friend Jen was instrumental in planning and decorating.
We decided it was my last final party to throw and we went all out.
We needed a theme: something we could decorate and cook around.
Naturally, a night in Japan :)

Seventeenth: An Evening in Tokyo

Date: November 14
Dress: Semi-Formal and Traditional Japanese
Decoration Highlights: 50 Paper Lanterns and Japanese Dress-up
Guest Count: 100+

The evening consisted of:
swing dancing on the main level
other dancing in the basement
make your own sushi
lots of presents
dress up and photo op

I loved that my grandfather, who is a photographer, was willing to take pictures of everyone who wanted to get dressed up in traditional Japanese clothing. It made for really memorable party pictures that everyone loved :)

She made a beautiful Geisha, didn't she?

the incomplete guest list

It was a wonderful night - and the last birthday party I got to throw at home.
Thanks for letting me bore you with all of these birthday details :)
What has been your favorite so far?
What are fun things you've done for your birthdays?

Love,
Elisabeth

Even thought I hate seafood, especially sushi, it looks like it was fun. :)
