Birthday Flashback Love: Sweet Sixteen

In honor of reaching the one week countdown to my birthday - yes people, next Monday this little girl with be TWENTY-ONE, I'm doing a week of birthday flashbacks (they'll be fun, promise :)

A short introduction:

I LOVE birthdays - and couple that with the fact that I LOVE throwing parties - and you have a lethal combination. One of the things I missed most about coming to college (besides my family obviously) was my wonderful house that was perfect for large social events I am so excited to have a house of my own one day where I can have large scale dinner parties and christmas parties and new years parties ... all complete with long-stemmed glasses of course :)

---

This particular flashback is a party I can't take credit for - it was a surprise. I would like to think it shows where I get my love for party throwing from though - my incredible mother.

Sweet Sixteen: A Night In New York
Date: November 10, 2006
Dress: Semi Formal
Decoration Highlights: New York skyline by Alan Smith, silvers stars hanging from 100 helium balloons (starry night sky)
Guest Count: about 40

I didn't date until I turned 16, as a rule, and so the joke was my dad was going to take me on my first date. I got ready at my friend Kate's house, just to spend some time together, and then my dad picked me up there. It was going to be a traveling dinner he told me so we started with H'ordeeurves and the the quant, yet elegant, Bedford Village Inn (also the place we had the 4 bedroom mansion for our wedding night :). After starters he blindfolded me and told me the next place we were going was ethnic (the obvious answer was Indian food, my favorite). He mentioned something about finger food and kept driving. When I got out of the car he helped me up a walkway, which I recognized as home. How cute is this? We're having my mom make Indian food for dinner and then we'll probably go more casual to icecream for dessert! Yes, I was oblivious. It wasn't until I walked through the door, took of my blindfold ...and tried to take in all my favorite people crowded in my great room!

We enjoyed a wonderful night of virgin cocktails, finger foods, dancing ( my parents had brought in swing dance instructors so everyone could dance), presents, and wonderful friends. Here are some memories from the night ....

Did my mom do a great job or what??

Coming Next: Seventeenth, a bonfire, and a magical weekend in _______ !

Where do you think I went? And what are your favorite birthday memories?

Love,
Elisabeth

Yay for Birthday week!! Your mom and dad sound awesome. I'm excited for the day when I have my own home and can throw big parties. The biggest family tradition for birthdays in my house is singing Happy Birthday in English and Portuguese. Every time. And there is always homemade cake. It's awesome. :)

I think you went to....England?
