A friend is not someone who hangs out with you,
or someone who texts, tweets, or facebooks you.
A friend isn't someone who always wants to make plans.
Of course, I have lots of good friends who do all of that, and hearing from them makes my days brighter. All those good friends hang out with me because they like to, because being with me does something for them. They ALSO do things for or with me because it does something for me. Does that make any sense? A friendship is a two way thing. Yeah, sometimes, when I'm super down, its a pretty one way street. And sometimes when they need it, its 100% about them. But, the majority of the time its a beautiful give and take - a very very important give and take.
Here is a good tip or two:
1. Ask a question for every one you answer.
2. Personal gain is important, but people trump things, events, or status every. single. time.
3. Be kind, not just fun.
"Never let a problem to be solved become more important than a person to be loved."
Thanks for indulging me on that little rant,
For Kirsten who took these pictures
(and to Brooke (pictured above) for being an example of a great friend).
What do you think makes a good friend?
Tips on how to be one?

I love #3. Some people think that all you need to do is just be fun....but that gets old after a while. I definitely look for kindness in a friend!!
Elisabeth, seriously I'm crying. You're so sweet, and such a great friend and example to me. I love you.
I love #3. In high school I had lots of friends who were fun to be around, but when it came to real important stuff, there were real b*****s!
I love this post! I sent you an email right before this that I think ties in nicely with this! haha
Love number three too. I definitely am not my friends' most fun friend. But I can be their kindest. I try to be, anyway.
:) Friendships sometimes fall by the wayside when life gets busy. These are all GREAT points! I love the quote that's something like.... friendship isn't about who calls you the most, or ...something...it's about the one who came into your life and never left. It reminds me of my two BEST girl friends! We are all spread out over the Southeast, have totally different lives and hobbies and interests, and we don't always talk very often. But we all know that the three of us are the best of friends, always there for each other no matter what, and when we're together it's like we have never been apart. I think a big part of being a good friend is being understanding of the fact that as adults, we can't always put our friendships into the top priority position. We have to be understanding of each others husbands and families, jobs, commitments, and responsibilities. If we understand that about each other, we won't get jealous or hurt and ruin the friendship.
This is such a great post!
How cute! I love when you guys have each other in your posts. It's so fun to know you both :)
